TORONTO — A group of autism activists plan to drop in on Attorney General Michael Bryant’s community picnic this weekend. Malcolm Stanley, a spokesperson for the Ontario Autism Coalition and the parent of an autistic child, said the organization is asking candidates in the upcoming provincial election to make specific commitments that would ensure their children get the services they need in schools.
The coalition wants all three parties to confirm they will allow intensive behavioural intervention therapists into the schools, eliminate the wait list for treatment and develop a system for credentials and training. Stanley said Bryant’s ministry battled parents of autism in court, but he won’t be the only politician who gets a visit. ‘We just thought he’s having a barbecue and we might show up,’ Stanley said. Greg Crone, a spokesperson for Bryant, said the MPP is holding a corn roast in his Toronto riding of St. Paul’s. ‘Everyone from the community is welcome to attend,’ Crone said.”
