“BCBA” refers to a “Board Certified Behaviour Analyst”. A BCBA is a practitioner who conducts behavioral assessments, functional analyses, and designs and supervises behavior interventions.
When needed, the BCBA seeks the consultation of more experienced practitioners and teaches, including Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts, to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research and designs. The BCBA is credentialed by the American Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Children with autism present with behavioural excesses and deficits which require a behavioural approach to treatment. Behavioural interventions for children with autism using principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis are developed by BCBAs and overseen by BCBAs who are knowledgeable and have experience working with individuals with autism.
