ABA, also known as “Applied Behaviour Analysis” is the application of behavioural principles to improve, promote or eliminate specific behaviours. It is a system of teaching that modifies behaviour by reinforcing appropriate behaviour. ABA breaks complex tasks and skills into very basic components, and teaches each component very rigorously.
ABA, also known as “Applied Behaviour Analysis” is the application of behavioural principles to improve, promote or eliminate specific behaviours. It is a system of teaching that modifies behaviour by reinforcing appropriate behaviour. ABA breaks complex tasks and skills into very basic components, and teaches each component very rigorously.ABA is used to treat children with autism to change socially important behaviour, while ensuring that the behaviour can be measured, clearly defined, and demonstrate that there is indeed a relationship between the behaviour and the intervention. The effectiveness of ABA for children with autism is supported up by over 30 years of empirical research. Without ABA, children with autism are denied the opportunity to gain meaningful life skills necessary to become contributing members of society. Without appropriate intervention, children with autism will remain dependent on others for life skills, increasing their likelihood of institutionalization, the costs of which can be staggering. Almost all children with autism benefit from ABA. It is the best known method to teach children with autism, and it is the only method with significant scientific research to support its effectiveness.
